Fresh to the Milwaukee scene, Agave Southwest Bar & Grill opened in July 2015, offering a unique take on Southwestern cuisine. Restaurant owner Tony used to live in Chicago, but noticed the open market in Milwaukee for Southwestern cuisine. Tony and his head chef have created an innovative menu, featuring multiple dishes made with classic Southwestern staples, such as ancho chiles and salsas. The menu features unique flavors of the Southwest infused into different types of cuisine. The ëChicken Penne Pasta,í a classic Italian dish, is instead made with a romesco sauce, which is an ancho chile tomato sauce that combines flavors of garlic, olives, and roasted onions and tomatoes. Agaveís short ribs are also made with ancho chile and slowly braised in red wine and Southwestern herbs. For light and fresh flavors, try the Mahi Mahi made with mango salsa and risotto with poblano peppers.Save room for dessert because the menu at Agave includes a ëChocolate Banana Bread Puddingí and a ëChocolate and Vanilla Creme Brulee.í All desserts are made in-house along with the specialty drinks with infused liquors. Reasonably priced drinks, such as mojitos and sangrias, are a popular choice to pair with any meal. Agaveís location is conveniently close to downtown Milwaukee theatres, hotels, and the Bradley Center. The warm and open layout is welcoming to anyone who walks through the doors at Agave.
