Alem Ethiopian Village is located in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. It was opened by Mulu Hailu along with her husband and brother-in-law. It is named after Hailuís mother, Alem, who inspired her to open the restaurant. Hailu cooks all of the food herself from scratch. Quality is important to her. She has perfected the taste of every recipe. Alem Ethiopian village has some great weekly specials. Every Tuesday-Friday from 11 AM-2 PM there is a vegetarian lunch buffet. On Fridays and Saturdays there is a special of meat tartare with butter and spices. All of the food on the menu is gluten free, with the exception of injera (sourdough-risen flatbread), which can be made gluten free if requested in advance.Alem Ethiopian Village welcomes parties, events, and reservations for groups of 6 or more. Come in for your birthday and receive a free slice of cheesecake and a glass of wine for adults. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday every week.
