Michael Mizrahi owner of Bar 31 located at 29 State St, Bristol is an honest guy. He tells us heíd like to take credit for being the genius that came up with the idea of serving Americanized tapas at his popular restaurant. However, he tells us necessity was the mother of invention in this case. The kitchen of his restaurant is small and in order to make things fit, Bar 31ís menu is filled with small plate offerings. Assisting Michael in fulfilling the restaurant’s mission to provide gourmet quality food at a great price in a comfortable setting is Chef Elser Ramirez. Elser, who started in the business as a dishwasher, has spent 24 years in the kitchens of venerable restaurants including Hemenway’s and Papa Razzi. Chef Ramirez is known for his creative and artistic dishes and was just featured on local CBS affiliate, WPRIís Rhode Show. Signature menu items include: Scallops, pan seared over leeks and local sweet corn risotto and Lollipop Lamb Chops, marinated in fresh herb garlic, seared, and served over local summer vegetables. The menu is seasonally inspired and ever-changing. Current favorites include the Filet Mignon, seared Black Angus, encrusted w/porcini mushrooms, served with gorgonzola and oven roasted fingerling potatoes and Fried Calamari, tossed with banana peppers, served in a garlic butter sauce.Being a small family owned restaurant Michael sometimes jumps in and washes dishes. He says his favorite part of the business is seeing all the completely empty plates that come back to the kitchen. The restaurant features a full bar with a dozen craft beers on tap. For a good time, visit on Friday and Saturday for live music. Be on the lookout for the new Pre Fixe Dinner menu this fall. Let Michael Mizrahi, Chef Elser Ramirez, and their warm and friendly staff welcome you to Bar 31. You wonít be disappointed!
