Dana Mills Helman is the visionary behind the creation of the Bay of Pines. It is an organic restaurant, museum, art gallery, and performance space all combined into one. Many of Danaís early influences came from the summers she would spend on her grandparentsí farm. This is where she learned about cooking, canning, and developed an appreciation for organic vegetables and herbs. The restaurant’s second floor is filled with floor to ceiling murals evoking an ambiance of underwater fantasy. A bar in the shape of a ship pays homage to Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. In 1542,Cabrillo aboard the La Victoria, named the area ìBahia de los Pinosî or Bay of Pines. The main dining area of the eatery boasts high ceilings, huge picture windows, and hand-painted floor to ceiling murals of the beautiful natural scenes of Monterey Peninsula. The menu of Bay of Pines is populated with organic California cuisine with a European influence. It features local produce, free-range chicken, and grass-fed beef. Popular items include the Chefís Caesar Salad featuring organic romaine lettuce and herb buttered croutons served with Caesar dressing, nuts, goat cheese crumbles, and raspberry vinaigrette and the Cockpit Artichoke Salad made with julienned endive and artichoke hearts with tangerine segments on a bed of California greens with champagne vinaigrette. Artisan Burgers are served with your choice of French fries or a house salad featuring 100% local grass fed beef. Dana shares that she believes the signature dish of the house is the Mediterranean Chicken: organic free range chicken breast immersed in lime and rosemary marinade, pan seared and topped with diced tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and artichokes in a light brandy sauce served with potato puree. Be sure to leave room for dessert too. Choices include Vanilla Bean CrËme Br˚lÈe, a creamy vanilla bean custard with a hint of coffee and caramelized organic sugar and Chocolate-Chip Bread Pudding, a delectable bread pudding with chocolate chips served with a crËme Anglaise.The restaurant features a variety of organic locally produced craft beers and great wine choices from all over California.
