Bubbyís NY Style Delicatessen is New Hampshireís first Jewish style deli that offers its guests delicious and fresh cuisine. Gregg Schweitzer, the owner, has worked in the restaurant business all his life and finally decided to branch out on his own and open his first restaurant in Portsmouth. Bubby is the Yiddish term for grandmother and Greg picked that as the name of his deli because it represents Jewish authenticity while still being easy to read and pronounce. Bubbyís opened in November of 2015 and has gained a great reputation within the community since. It is Greggís favorite part of the business seeing return customers visit again and again enjoying his food. Bubbyís offers full service breakfast and lunch every day and is one of the only downtown Portsmouth restaurants that does so. All the food is made in-house from scratch using the highest quality and locally sourced ingredients. When it comes to breakfast, Bubbyís ìBenniesî or eggs benedicts are some of the most popular dishes. The Nova Bennie is done in a traditional Jewish style that is made with two poached eggs, nova lox, tomato, and red onion served over crispy latkes and topped with their hollandaise sauce. The homemade soups are another popular pick and the Jewish Penicillin, or matzo ball soup, is a fan favorite. Of course, their delicious sandwiches are extremely popular as well with the Hot Corned Beef and Hot Pastrami sandwiches being some of the top picks. There are even about seven different kinds of bread to choose from! All of the deliís sweets are baked on premise and the things the deli cannot produce they source from local butchers, bakeries, and kitchens. Bubbyís also supports and sponsors local businesses, events, and charities in order to really be an active part of the community and give back to the people who support them. Bubbyís also does catering and can provide platters for any kind of corporate function, family party, or special event. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the dÈcor has an industrial feel with exposed air ducts, subway tiles, and concrete flooring. Upon walking in you really feel like youíve been transported to New York. The space is comfortable and bright and really encourages guests to sit back, relax, and enjoy their time. The next time youíre craving a delicious, handcrafted meal, make sure to stop by Bubbyís NY Style Delicatessen and let Gregg and his friendly staff welcome you like family!
