Cafe Delmarette pays homage to an old diner established in the 1930s with the same name. After a severe earthquake in Santa Cruz in 1989 the diner was shut down, so today, Cafe Delmarette looks to continue its name and legacy. The cafe is located in the same building as the Del Mar Theater also. Three friends Fred Meng, Jen Toner, and Elaine Wong all opened the cafe together in 2009, but today Fred is the sole owner while Jen continues to help run the place. Everything at the cafe is homemade from scratch using high quality, locally sourced, and organic ingredients. They specialize in delicious breakfast and lunch items. They make all their own scones, cookies, cakes, soups, salads, sandwiches, and even chai for drinks and lattes. One of the most popular menu items is the Rita sandwich, which is an organic egg and potato sandwich with white cheddar and homemade aioli. Add bacon for an extra taste delight! Customers canít get enough of their scones either that are light and fluffy instead of heavy. Unlike most other restaurants, Cafe Delmarette uses several different coffee roasters that they rotate and change daily. All of the coffee they brew is from local California roasters. They also French press their coffees the old school way to add that perfect finishing touch and flavor. The cafe is quaint with about fifteen seats inside and their nice outdoor patio offers about fifteen more. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The next time youíre in town, be sure to check out Cafe Delmarette for a delicious, pure, and high quality meal – you wonít be disappointed!
