Cafe Ivetaís story starts in Chicago, Illinois where John Bilanko and his wife Yvette opened their first cafe in 1992. They then opened an espresso bar and even started their own business for manufacturing baking mixes. In 1998 John and Yvette moved out to California to continue their manufacturing business. The business was doing well and they decided to open a cafe as well, hence Cafe Iveta was born in 2010. To avoid copyright issues involving the name Yvette, they decided to name the cafe Ivetaís, which is how Yvetteís Italian father and his friends always pronounced her name. Today there are two locations, the first on the westside of Santa Cruz and the second on the campus of UCSC that opened in April of 2016. John, Yvette, and two of their four daughters Lisa and Danielle all work in and help manage the cafes. The cafe features food that is made from scratch using the freshest and finest ingredients. They roast all their own beef, make their own homemade condiments, and use a majority of organic produce. Their goal is to provide an upscale experience that focuses on simple and fresh food. The menu at Cafe Iveta offers breakfast, soup & salad, sandwiches, pastries, and snacks. The cafeís scones are their signature item that theyíve won awards for. Another fan favorite is the BLT sandwich that is made with bacon, butter lettuce, and roma tomatoes on sourdough bread with homemade spicy mayo. John also says that they make the best Breakfast Burrito in the area. Itís made with scrambled eggs, a blend of shredded monterey jack & sharp cheddar cheese, fresh spinach, and housemade pico de gallo rolled in a flour tortilla with a side of ranchero sauce.Cafe Iveta also offers beer and wine to pair with your meal. They have a great selection of craft beers as well as beers on draft. Thereís a full espresso bar as well featuring Lavazza coffee that is the largest Italian coffee roaster. Cafe Iveta is also environmentally conscious and tries to be as sustainable as possible by sourcing local ingredients when possible. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and welcoming with a staff that is friendly, energetic, and passionate about what they do. There is indoor seating as well as a nice outdoor patio. The cafe even features local artistsí work that rotates to showcase different pieces and artists. The westside location also has an upstairs loft that is great for hosting private parties or events. All in all, Cafe Iveta is the perfect place to sit back, relax, and enjoy your time. The cafe even enjoys supporting the local community, non-profits, and good causes. The next time youíre craving a delicious, homemade meal, make sure to stop by Cafe Iveta – you wonít be disappointed!
