Charannís Tavern was opened in 1969 by Chester, Pennsylvania natives Charlie and Ann Fischer. Charannís Tavern was originally located on the Courtney Campbell Causeway  in Tampa, Florida. Charann’s Tavern original location, was an old cinder block building, with no indoor bathrooms.  They introduced Tampa to the cheesesteak. Their Tampaís Original Cheesesteak was so popular, lunches were standing room only. On weekends, fishermen would pull their boats up out back, fuel  up on cheesesteaks and head out on the water. Charann’s Tavern drew all types sports figures. During spring training, the Cincinnati Reds would always show up and make a huge order of Cheesesteak Sandwiches to feed the entire team. Currently the University of Tennessee, Tampa area alumni. spend their Saturdays watching Volunteer Football at Charannís and on Sundays all the pro games are on the many TVs but you can be pretty sure the sound of the Buccaneers game will be turned up. In 2013 Charannís Tavern moved to the current location is 6748 Memorial Highway.  While the new location has indoor bathrooms, the old charm of the bar and grill still is in place. Current owner Karin Juh bought the business in 2000.  Karin has made every effort to maintain the loyal customer base and keep the best Cheesesteak Sandwich in Tampa, the best. She shares stories of people actually flying  into Tampa and their first stop is Charanneís to get a Cheesesteak fix. Featuring thinly sliced, grilled steak on a fresh roll with American cheese, grilled onions, tomatoes and your choice of peppers. Many say, ìIt is quite simply the best steak sandwich you will ever taste.î  Besides the famous steak sandwich, the menu features a nice selection of appetizers, soups, salads and  sandwiches like the Reuben Or Rachel, with thinly sliced corned beef (reuben), or turkey (rachel), piled high on rye bread, with sauerkraut, swiss cheese and 1000 island dressing. Charannís Tavern has an outside patio with TVs and fans with misters to keep you cool in the summer. Bring your pooch, Charannís hosts a dog Halloween costume contest and frequent ìYappy Hours.î The annual Cheesesteak Eating Contest has entrants competing to devour four cheesesteaks with progressively hotter peppers. Beginning at mild and finishing with the devil. The Tavern features a full bar with 24 beers on tap, many of which are constantly rotating craft beers. Tampaís original steak sandwich, often imitated, never duplicated.
