Currently standing as Wisconsinís first and only main Cuban restaurant so far, Cubanitas gives out only the best in Cuban traditional and contemporary foods. Cubanitas was opened in Sept. 2003 and is owned and operated by restaurateur Marta Bianchini. The restaurant serves traditional Cuban food including its specialty sandwiches and mojitos. The menu includes a wide variety of Cuban pressed sandwiches that are all labeled in Spanish on the menu. This includes a variety of different meats such as jamon y queso (ham and cheese), sandwich de pollo (grilled chicken), pan con bistec (sirloin steak), pan con lechon (roasted pork) and ìElena Ruzî sandwich de pavo (turkey breast and swiss cheese). There are many other Cuban entree options on the menu such as empanadas, tamales, tropical chicken, flank steak, camarones (black tiger shrimp), costillitas (Cuban baby back ribs) and seafood dishes such as tilapia and pescados. The beverage menu contains an array of Cuban creation drinks such as Cuban soda, vino blanco (white wine), daiquiri, Cuba libre, planterís punch and pisco sour. Bianchini said that the most popular drink on the menu is the mojito (which is served with mint and a lime). She said that the restaurant sells over thousands of mojitos every year.Unlike most other restaurants, Cubanitas serving style is organized differently in order to help out people who want to either be in a group or individually. There is express counter service during the day where customers can pick their items to go. Then starting around 4:30 or 5 p.m. during dinner time there is sit-down service with servers. The system is all under the same menu, just two separate sets of service. She said the restaurant created this unique system of serving service in order to be quick and efficient for people to get in and out during the day.The restaurant is open from Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sundays. There are even daily specials on entrees, with Saturday having a special brunch menu.
