Cure is located at 189 State Street in Portsmouth. Julie Cutting is the Executive Chef and owner of the award winning restaurant. Cure offers comfort food with an upscale twist. The name is a dual play on words. The restaurant strives to be a place to ìcure what ails you,î whether it be a bad day at work or the Monday blues. Also, curing is a culinary technique prominently used in the restaurant. One may recognize Chef Julie from her television appearances. She received national exposure and was able to use her background in theatre while appearing on the Food Network. She has also been featured on the Phantom Gourmet twice. She was also invited to the New Hampshire Food Banks Charity Event which was a culinary competition hosted by the Food Networkís own Robert Irvine. Julie envisioned Cure as a neighborhood spot where one could sample an award winning martini and enjoy her outsized personality while she cooks in the open kitchen. Julie explains, much of the restaurantís food is slow cooked and braised, techniques most people canít do at home. She especially enjoys meeting guests and tells us she has a great staff at the restaurant, all of whom she considers family. Cure only uses the finest and freshest ingredients that are sustainable and locally sourced whenever possible. One of the unique starter options is the Confit Duck Drummettes, which is gently tossed with buffalo sauce, and served with housemade bleu cheese dressing and chives. Try Julieís amazing French Onion Soup, with caramelized Spanish onions, garlic, shallots, chives, sherry, beef broth, herb-garlic croutons, and golden Swiss cheese. A popular entree is the Espresso Stout Short Ribs dish. It is made with all natural beef slow braised in coffee, dark stout, and cocoa nibs, with creamy-herb polenta, sautÈed broccolini, and braising jus gravy. Another option is the Crispy Skinned Duck Breast, with black forbidden rice mushroom risotto, wilted baby spinach, and white wine balsamic beurre blanc.Cure has a full bar featuring many exciting specialty cocktails. They serve craft beers and have an extensive wine list. There is a private dining area seating up to 24. Additionally the patio, which is open from May to September, was voted the ìBest Outside Diningî by New Hampshire Magazine in May of 2016.
