Since June of 2008, Dametra Cafe has become one of the most talked about and loved eateries in Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. Owners and friends, Bashar Sneah and Faisal Nimri, always wanted to open their own restaurant that felt as if you were in someoneís living room visiting family and friends. They have accomplished that and more with their warm, comfortable, and inviting cafe. Dametra gets its name by combining cities Damascus in Syria and Petra in Jordan. Bashar is from Syria and Faisal from Jordan, so they thought the name was perfect to reflect each of their backgrounds and origins. Dametra Cafe serves authentic Northeast Mediterranean cuisine from regions like Greece and the Middle East. Both Bashar and Faisal have a passion for making people happy, especially through food, so each and every dish at Dametra is made with love and close attention to detail. The menu offers a nice variety of salads, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, meat, and seafood. Bashar highly recommends any of their signature lamb dishes. Both their Greek Style Lamb Shank and Lamb Shish Kebab entrees are some of their bestsellers. The traditional Greek Moussaka is another popular choice made with baked layers of eggplant, tomatoes, ground beef, and potatoes topped with Bechamel and parmesan. In addition to their wonderful cuisine, Dametra serves a nice variety of beers and wines also.Dametra Cafe has even received countless awards and recognitions for their topnotch food and service. The first year they opened they were awarded with ìBest Restaurantî by the Chamber of Commerce of Carmel-By-The-Sea. Their second year they won ìBest Businessî and have since won ìBest Mediterranean Restaurantî every year by many different newspapers and publications. Yelp! has even ranked Dametra in their top restaurants across the country. The atmosphere is enhanced by Bashar and Faisal entertaining guests by playing the oud, a Mediterranean guitar. Dametra Cafe is quaint with thirty-seats, so because of their small size, Bashar and Faisal have bought another space down the street from the cafe. They named the eatery Mediterranean Restaurant and it has the same menu as Dametra. Itís used as an extension of Dametra to handle the overflow that Dametra cannot fit. Unlike Dametra, Mediterranean Restaurant has a full liquor license so they can serve hard alcohol in addition to beer and wine. Mediterranean Restaurant opened in 2016 and has a larger dining space to hold more people. Just like Dametra it is warm, cozy, colorful, and very inviting. All in all, if youíre looking to have a superb meal in Carmel-By-The-Sea Dametra Cafe and Mediterranean Restaurant are must-trys! Bashar and Faisal invite everyone to come visit and try their high quality, delicious food. Upon walking in youíre treated just like family.
