Michaelís father came from Brooklyn, New York to Palo Alto, California in 1972 and opened a pizzeria. After selling the restaurant in 1975 and venturing into a few other locations, Fiorilloís of Santa Clara began in 1977 as a pizza and sandwich shop. Built from the ground up and transformed into a full running restaurant with a banquet hall, Fiorilloís has been family run for 17 years.Fiorillo’s is open five days a week (closed on Sundays and Mondays) and makes everything, including the dough, from scratch. The beginning of every meal at Fiorilloís starts with a serving of their homemade complimentary focaccia. This unique eat has been featured in the ëBest of the Bayí and ëOpen Table.í Begin your meal at Fiorilloís with one of their many delicious classic Italian appetizers. Restaurant owner and chef, Michael, exclaims the Oysters Rockefeller served at Fiorilloís is ësecond to none.í For a true taste Italy, order the antipasti platter, which features Genoa salami, prosciutto, provolone cheese, roasted red pepper, kalamata olives, fresh tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella, and topped with extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and spices. It is also recommended to try the Italian ëCoil Sausage.í For a pasta entree, order the ëPasta Fiorillo.í This dish features linguini pasta, sauteed calamari, baby clams, bay shrimp and prawns cooked together in a red sauce. The ëChicken Marsalaí is one of the restaurant’s most popular signature dishes. The chicken breast is freshly sauteed and basted in a classic cream sauce of sauteed mushrooms, marsala wine, over a bed of fettuccini with a demi-glaze reduction. Donít miss out on Fiorillo’s ëBaked Italian Salmon,í prepared with Italian seasoned breadcrumbs and served under a sauce of sauteed fresh garlic, onions, capers, Parmigiano Reggiano and pecorino romano cheese imported from Italy. The restaurant is closed Sundays and Mondays, but will open for private parties. The banquet room at Fiorillo’s seats up to 40 to 180 people, while the dining room seats around 130 people.
