Mark Gilbert is the owner of Firefish Grill in the Municipal Wharf in Santa Cruz. The eatery started as a seafood restaurant called Gilbertís that was owned by Markís father. In 2009 he sold it to Mark, who had his own ideas for a restaurant concept. He completely remodeled the establishment and implemented his fire grilled concept. The mesquite charcoal grill used to cook the fish sits in the window. This style of cooking is unique in Santa Cruz. Manager Larry April says the fish cooked with fire in the mesquite grill is on another level from your typical fish found in restaurants. The menu at Firefish contains traditional seafood, steaks, and homemade pasta dishes served California style. Everything is offered at a reasonable price. Reviewers consistently love the cuisine and environment of the restaurant. If you canít decide what type of fish you want to order, try the Firefish Seafood Platter, which comes with deep fried prawns, scallops, calamari, charbroiled salmon, and fresh fish. Larry recommends one of their Local Specials, the Cajun Snapper. It is a fresh snapper grilled with Cajun spices and topped with bell peppers and onion jambalaya sauce. Firefish Grill also has a full bar complete with specialty cocktails. Try their Melissaís Mai Tai, with light and dark rum, and a blend of tropical fruit juices.Another draw to Firefish Grill is the view. Every seat in the house has a beautiful ocean view. The restaurant is open every day for lunch and dinner. Check it out for perfectly cooked seafood and steaks at an affordable price!
