Floraís is located at 306 North Mulberry Street in Lancaster. Floraís is the dream of chef Flora Gonzales. Her husband Abner and her brother Thaddeus were crucial in helping her achieve her dream. Flora was not trained as a chef. Family circumstances forced her to learn to cook. At a young age she needed to take care of her own children and raise her younger siblings. Flora tells us she always had an adventurous palate and her home cooking often combined unusual mixtures of ingredients. Cooking seems to be in Floraís DNA; her grandfather owned restaurants, and she can remember what a great cook her grandmother was. Despite all that, she thought owning a restaurant was an unattainable dream. After winning a Chopped style food contest amongst friends, her brother suggested heíd financially back her and Floraís was born. The restaurantís ever changing menu reflects Floraís eclectic take on traditional Latin cuisine. A best seller is the Paella, a well known Spanish entree, which contains rice, chicken, and sausage. Flora often tops the dish with a whole lobster or a giant crab claw. The restaurant also puts a Latin spin on its own version of Shepherdís Pie. Another favorite is the whole Grilled Red Snapper, stuffed with vegetables and fruit, including limes and oranges. Cuban Sandwiches are crafted using the eateries homemade pickles and special recipe mustard. Other entrees include Roasted Pork, Grilled Tilapia, and Pan Seared Salmon. On Funday Monday, look for the all you can eat empanadas. If you want a great meal in a fun and unique setting, stop in at Floraís today.
