Gasparís Grotto is located at 1805 East 7th Avenue in Tampa. The Notorious Pirate Bar is named for Jose Gaspar, a Spanish pirate that was known as the ìLast Buccaneerî and sailed the waters of Tampa Bay. Eric Schiller, a retired sea captain, and his wife, Shere, own Gasparís, which is listed in ìThe Worldís Best Bars.î Eric tells us they opened Gasparís in 2004 and that itís a very hands on operation. He and Shere are in the restaurant 7 days a week. They strive to provide the best experience possible for all patrons. Start your meal with a popular appetizer like the  Caribbean Shrimp Boat, which is loaded with shrimp, onions, red and green bell peppers, in a sauce of butter, real Caribbean jerk, spiced rum, and Caribbean spices. Another option is Devil Crab, house-made and filled with blue crab and served with crystal butter. Eric tells us not to miss, Abuela’s Spanish Bean Soup, made with savory saffron broth, seasoned with ham, chorizo, garbanzo beans, onions, and potatoes. A must try is Gaspar’s Fish Taco dish, freshly caught and cooked to your liking. It is topped with Grotto slaw, queso fresco, purple onions, and housemade taco seasoning sauce in a grilled flour tortilla. Another option is Pork "Havana." It is made with slow roasted pork is marinated in mojo criollo, fresh garlic, oregano, sour orange, lemon, and key lime juices. Gasparís is famous for their  award winning Cuban Sandwich. Itís made on fresh baked La Segunda Cuban bread and layered with sliced sweet baked ham, genoa salami, and Cuban style roast pork, then topped with Swiss cheese, Ybor-style mayo-mustard, and pickles.
