Great Jones Cafe was established in 1983. One of the owners, Mark Hitzges, started working at Great Jones Cafe around 1986 as a chef and has been there ever since. Currently Mark is partners with Jim and Bill, and Bill and Mark run all the day to day operations. Great Jones Cafe is a traditional American restaurant with a cajun twist. The Hambone Gumbo is very popular, along with the File Gumbo with Andouille & Shrimp. The burgers are also delicious; Mark explained they have been using the same butcher for the past 25 years. ìThe trick is to have fresh, good meat,î explained Mark. Everything is made in-house at Great Jones Cafe, including the soups, chilis, and desserts. Mark explained that all of his vendors he purchases ingredients from he has known and worked with for many years. Nothing is ever frozen, always fresh. Try Great Jones Cafeís Shaggy; their version of a Dark ëNí Stormy, made with a specially shipped spicy ginger ale mixed with rum. The margaritas and Bloody Mary’s are each made fresh by hand. Great Jones Cafeís classic old school drinks pair perfectly with their amazing vinyl jukebox.
