Dave and his business partners owned a Ramshorn franchise in Sterling Heights for seven years before they converted the restaurant in 2013 to the independently owned Great Lakes Family Dining. Prior to that, they owned another Ramshorn location for 20 years. Dave actually met his wife Donna when she was 16 working at a Ramshorn together! Ramshorn will always have a special place in Dave and Donnaís hearts, but after almost three decades they decided they wanted a little more flexibility and to be able to provide their customers with that whey wanted. By opening an independent restaurant, Dave and his partners were able to create their own specials. They now can offer different breads, salads, soups, and make their own gravies and sauces. Unlike with the franchise where they had to buy a lot of the items already made, Great Lakes Family Dining now makes as much as they can homemade. The Roast Turkey is a popular entree; real mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing and gravy, juicy turkey roasted in-house, and a delicious cranberry sauce. You can have Thanksgiving dinner any day of the year!Customers love Great Lakes Family Diningís speciality breakfast items and fresh fruits. Their seasonal items, including Polish and Mexican specials, are also very popular. Great Lakes Family Dining is very family oriented as the name suggests. All of Dave and Donnaís children have worked for them. Donna loves the marketing, advertising, and menu creating aspect of owning an independent restaurant. Dave and Donna hope to see you soon for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!
