Chef Frederic of the Gulf Bistro began his formal culinary training as a young man in France. He has cooked fine cuisine all over the United States. He also spent four years as the personal chef of the President of Zaire. The restaurant, which opened in 2001 is located at 15225 Gulf Boulevard in Madeira Beach.Gulf Bistro features classic French cuisine. To start, options include the Onion Soup Gratine and Escargots En Cocotte, consisting of snails in a creamy butter garlic sauce. The Cote DíAgneau au jus features New Zealand lamb chops in rosemary white wine garlic sauce. Another classic dish, La Soupe Du Chef Bouillabaisse way consists of grouper, shrimp, clam, scallop and mussels in a rich saffron tomato and garlic olive oil and anise ricard broth. Also offered is a four course tasting menu. Popular dessert options include profiteroles in chocolate ganache sauce and Creme Brulee Flambe Grand Marnier. The Gulf Bistro is a family run business. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the food is fantastic. They have a great selection of French wines. This is a very popular restaurant and although reservations are not required, they are recommended.
