Guruís Indian Cuisine is located at 12 Cambridge Lane in Newton. The restaurant is owned by the husband and wife team of Ashni and Priya Guru. Chef Ashni has spent over two decades working in the restaurant business. He has taken his passion for cooking to his own restaurant, where he can present his vision of cuisine from his native India. Priya works in the front of the house welcoming guests and taking their orders. At first she was a little shy when interacting with patrons, but now she can do it with confidence and ease. Priya tells us she thinks as everyday as a party with the diners as guests. Guruís Indian Cuisine makes everything from scratch. Ashni and Priya feed people the same way they would feed family, using only the freshest and finest ingredients. Priya tells us they try to bring out the best in everything they do. She loves to see smiles on dinerís faces as their cuisine brings happiness. The Chefís Special appetizers at Guruís include; Chicken Lollypop, Whole Chicken Wings, and Spinach Chaat, which is fresh baby spinach, tomatoes, onions, and chickpea batter. Fresh and locally sourced pumpkins are cubed to create an aromatic Pumpkin Soup. A popular entree item is the Dum Aloo Kashmir, which contains paneer stuffed potatoes, cooked with a rich filling of khoya and cashewnuts with yogurt. Another option is the Kadhi Pakora, which is deep fried gram flour and vegetable fritters, simmered in sour yogurt gravy. Try their delicious take on the Indian classic, curry. Priya suggests Chef Ashniís very special preparation of Lamb Jahangiri.  It features lamb cooked together in a medium sauce with a special blend of spices and mustard. Whatever you order, remember to save room for a delicious homemade dessert. Featured selections are: Gajar Halwa, which is freshly grated carrots, almonds, and raisins, slow cooked in sweetened milk and flavored with mawa, Rasmalai, made with sweet dumplings of cottage cheese, served in chef’s special sweetened flavored milk, and Gulab Jamun, which is made with dumplings of fresh milk condensed, deep fried, and served in sugar syrup.
