Historic DownTowner building was built in 1926 by Fred Maxwell. It began life as a penny arcade in the 1920ís, and rumor has it Al Capone used it as a speakeasy and kept all his liquor. For the past two decades, the building has been home to the Historic DownTowner restaurant, a great seafood and steakhouse. The Historic DownTowner focuses on offering a fun atmosphere with good food and drink right on the river. It is a wonderful landmark place to come and eat when visiting Fort Lauderdale. Being right on the water, you can expect the seafood to always be fresh. ìWe go through so much of it we donít have time to freeze it,î explained Nick Resnick, Director of Operations. Nick also explained that a menu relaunch is happening soon to offer some great summer steak, salad, and seafood options!Historic DownTowner offers 20 different craft beers and a different Drink of the Day each day along with different drink specials. There is something for everyone!  Enjoy a Maxwell Mojito while sitting outside right on the water. The water taxi stops right at the restaurant, and the sun umbrellas will keep you cool. The Maxroom attached to Historic DownTowner is an event venue, perfect for all different types of parties. They also offer on and off site catering!
