Giacomo DíIgnoti started working for his father Giuseppe at the age of eight. Giacomo started making pizza boxes, making salads, and working the restaurant’s cash register. Il Cantone Cafe, which means corner cafe in English, is a testament to how well Giacomo learned the lessons of his father. The ten-year-old restaurant looks brand new, every surface is immaculately clean. The menu features Guiseppeís recipes brought with him from his native Sicily. The traditional Italian style cuisine is made fresh to order. Canít miss menu items include Pasta with Pappadella Al Ragu which is a homemade meat sauce with a touch of cream, and Pasta Alla Vodka with sauteed onions and prosciutto in pink sauce. A dish nobody else in town serves is the Chicken Milano featuring fried chicken cutlets topped with melted mozzarella in a francese sauce. A highly recommended entree is the Shrimp Monachina, shrimp in a mushroom marsala sauce topped with melted mozzarella. The rest of the menu features a vast selection of appetizers, soups, salads, and sandwiches. The Brick Oven churns out great pizzas and be sure to leave room for a sinful dessert. Options include homemade Cannolis and Tiramisu. The restaurant features a full bar and a children’s menu too. They have an extensive catering menu and offer take-out as well. Giacomo won’t do delivery because he believes it changes the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen. If you are in Franklin Square and hungry for a traditional Italian-style meal, drop in on Il Cantone Cafe. Let Giacomo and his friendly and helpful staff provide you with a wonderful dining experience!
