La Esquina at 551 N Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos must be doing something right. Smiling owner Rose Cornejo reports the restaurant originally started by her parents in 1996, just celebrated itís 16th anniversary in the current location. The menu is packed with classic Mexican dishes, created from scratch using seasonal, local ingredients. This warm casual space is family friendly, seating about 45 inside. There are board games for the kids and Rover is invited to sample the doggy menu on the patio, which can seat an additional twenty people. The recently renovated space is a great place for the family to enjoy fresh and flavorful Mexican dishes.A favorite dish is the Chile Relleno with Cheese. Rose hand picks all the chiles for freshness and consistency. It is this attention to detail keeping regulars coming back for years. Another popular item is, The Shredded Pork Carnitas. The meat is marinated in secret blend of spices that Rose refuses to divulge. It is slow cooked in a heavy copper pot until tantalizingly tender. Served on a sizzling plate the Fajitas are a choice of chicken or chopped steak, grilled with onions & bell peppers. La Esquina was voted to have the ìBest Burrito in Los Gatos.î La Esquina serves beer and wine and has a great housemade Sangria. It strives to be family friendly and provide a great light and humorous atmosphere. Rose invites everyone to friend them on Facebook. She uses Facebook announce specials and other fun information.
