Nick Higuera, along with family members, Lucy Ann, Donna and Mary are the owners of Liberty Fish Co in Monterey. The restaurantís history begins in the 1930s in New York where Nickís grandfather had originally opened up the restaurant. When he got sick he was told he needed to move somewhere with more sunshine, so in the 1940s the family moved to Monterey where he opened up the new location on the wharf. They started as a fish market, but have grown since. Their motto is ìfamily firstî and they consider their customers to be like extended family. Nick says he loves the customers, and takes pride in welcoming 2nd and 3rd generations of loyal guests. Liberty Fish Co specializes in fresh fish. Smoked Salmon is a best seller; Nick says it is always on the grill. Other customer favorites are Fish and Chips and Dungeness Crab. Their award winning Clam Chowder, served in a cup or bread bowl is another must have. Nick recommends the oysters which he catches fresh, sautees in white wine and garlic butter, and bakes.
