Loulouís Griddle in the Middle is a quaint, cozy, and unique diner in Monterey, California. Located right on the Municipal Wharf No. 2, there is always something going on and plenty of views to take in. Loulou Garrett first opened the diner in 2001 and her best friend Gigi Davis joined in to help her run the restaurant in 2011. Loulouís is the third establishment to occupy the small building that was first built in 1948. Inside the diner youíll find a sign that reads, ìCome in and be yourself!î which is a true testament to Loulouís values and inviting environment they have created. People of all ages and backgrounds visit Loulouís where they all have one thing in common: their love for Loulouís delicious food!Everything at the restaurant is made from scratch using the freshest and finest ingredients. Located on the commercial fishing dock, Loulouís gets first pick of fresh fish every day, so they feature two or three fresh catches daily. Their produce, dairy, and other ingredients are all delivered fresh daily as well. Loulouís menu is local, fresh, and small, which is the secret to their success. Head Chef Benito Carrillo grew up in Beliz, but has spent the past twenty years in Monterey. His cooking style is a mash-up of Beliz and Monterey cuisine where he focuses on using fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, and produce to make his dishes stand out.Breakfast is many customersí favorite meal of the day here and Squiddle & Eggs is the best-selling dish. The dish is made with tender calamari steak lightly breaded, griddled to a crispy brown, and served with eggs anyway you like them. Another crowd pleaser is Loulouís Pancakes that are the size of a truckís hubcap. When it comes to lunch and dinner, the Abalone Sliders are a must-try. The dish is so good it was actually featured on Food Networkís TV show Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives with Guy Fieri. Loulouís has partnered with a sustainable abalone farm at the end of the wharf where they get fresh and delicious abalone regularly. Loulouís is quite small with four tables inside, eight barstools at the bar, and a few tables outside, but for a tiny space itís full of huge flavor.
