Luna Rossa is located at 1699 Shawsheen Street in Tewksbury. Third generation restaurateur, David DiCenso, tells us the 19 year old family owned restaurant was named for a classic Neapolitan song. Luna Rossa was featured on the TV show Phantom Gourmet and has won awards for its seafood. David shares, there is always a family member on site. They strive to please their customers. If one needs something specially prepared, Luna Rossa will do it if at all possible. Everyday the restaurant makes fresh pasta, sausage, and bread. These items are scratch made in house, using only the finest and freshest locally sourced ingredients. One popular starter is Arancini al Forno, featuring two fried Italian rice balls stuffed with meatballs, peas, and mozzarella cheese, served with marinara sauce. Another favorite is Lunaís Homemade Meatballs, made with two veal, beef, and pork meatballs in marinara sauce. A pasta recommendation is the Gnocchi al Pomodoro, with Nonna Annaís homemade potato gnocchi in a light plum tomato sauce, topped with fresh mozzarella cheese. David also recommends the Rigatoni Bolognese, made with rigatoni tossed in homemade bolognese sauce, which is topped with a dollop of fresh ricotta. Entrees include a 16 oz. Angus Sirloin, with porcini crusted sirloin topped with arugula and shaved parmigiana cheese, drizzled with aged balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil, and Salmone alla Griglia, made with grilled salmon in a rosemary mustard cream sauce, served with sautÈed broccoli rabe. In the know regulars often order the Stuffed Veal Chop. Be sure to ask about the daily Risotto Specials. Luna Rossa has a full brick oven for making delicious homemade pizzas. Their signature pizza is the Luna Rossa, with plum tomato sauce, pepperoni, ricotta, mozzarella, fontina, and parmesan cheeses. Another popular option is the Abruzzi, with homemade abruzzese sausage, broccoli rabe, red pepper flakes, fresh mozzarella, garlic, and oil. The restaurant has a full bar with many specialty cocktails. The well populated wine list features many hidden gems from small Italian producers. Several times per year Luna Rossa hosts special wine dinners. They can do on site private dining for up to 100 people and offer catering to surrounding towns. If you are looking for a great Italian meal, in a warm and casual setting, stop in at Luna Rossa today. David and his warm and attentive staff will make sure you have a great dining experience!
