Caroline Lai is the owner of Masa Japanese Restaurant in York, PA. She got her start working in real estate, but she wanted to move into a career that allowed her to spend more time with her children. Her family had always worked in the restaurant industry and it was a place where she felt confident and comfortable. In 1999, with the help of her father and brother, she bought a building and started to create her first restaurant. Masa opened in 2004. Caroline came up with the name, Masa, when she was practicing writing Asian characters, called Kanji. It means beautiful and elegant. It fits her concept, and it connects Masa to her other restaurants, which also start with "M." Caroline loves being an independent restaurant owner because she can share her culture and develop a personal connection with the customers. She also loves her amazing staff and getting to offer them opportunities. Richard is the head chef at Masa. He constantly creates new unique and beautiful rolls to add to their extensive menu. Reviewers agree that Masa has the best sushi in York. The creative rolls are a big hit; they have fun options like a Boston Red Sox Roll, with spicy tuna, oshinko, crab, and avocado, or the Tropical Inferno Roll, made with shrimp, smoked salmon, mango, scallions, and avocado. Besides sushi, Masa has a huge menu with hibachi, noodles, appetizers, tempura, and teriyaki dishes. Their food is healthy, fresh, and reasonably priced. They try to accommodate the customers needs in any way possible. Portion sizes are adjustable and lunch portions are available all day long. Masa is open seven days a week. They now offer a full bar and extensive wine list. You can expect a simple, calm, and clean atmosphere and friendly service. Check out Masa for unique Japanese cuisine at a great price!
