Mercato Kitchen & Cocktails is located at 4958 Merrick Road in Massapequa Park, New York. It had always been a dream of Brian Bivona to own a restaurant, so when the long time hospitality industry professional was given the opportunity to purchase Mercato, he jumped at the chance. To run the kitchen he brought on his brother Matt Bivona, a graduate of the prestigious French Culinary Institute, as Executive Chef. The motto of Mercato is ìlife happens in the kitchenî. Manager Lisa Ganci tells us the restaurant has a loyal local clientele. She is on a first name basis with many of the regulars and likens the restaurant to the bar Cheers, of TV fame, where everybody knows your name. The eateryís menu is diverse. It includes salads, flatbreads, and burgers. Must-have menu items include the Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls, homemade buffalo chicken stuffed egg rolls are served with bleu cheese or roasted tomato ranch. Also, the Rigatoni Gorgonzola that is made with rigatoni, crumbled sausage, sautÈed spinach, oven roasted tomatoes, and aged gorgonzola tossed in a sinful truffle cream sauce. Other entrees include Pork Shank Osso Bucco and Chicken Panettone, a seared chicken breast topped with roasted red peppers, portobello mushrooms, eggplant, homemade melted mozzarella, and a light tomato sauce served over spinach.The restaurant has a full bar and features specialty cocktails crafted from scratch. They have a great selection of wines and five beers on tap with another ten in bottles. There is a kidís menu and Prix-Fixe menus for lunch and dinner. Different specials are offered daily.
