Spiro Alexopoulos, an immigrant from Greece, opened the first Nookies location in 1973. Over four decades later, Spiroís sons Nick and Peter own and operate all four locations. In the beginning, Nookies Old Town on Wells was just a small snack shop. They have since expanded on the front room and added two back rooms to make more of a diner. In the 1970ís the neighborhood was considerably different; it was an artist community with clientele from Second City. Almost everyone on SNL dined at Nookies back in the day!Nookies is famous for their breakfasts. They make an omelette unlike anywhere else. Nookies also serves lunch and dinner; some customers come in specifically for their soups made from scratch every single day. In fact, every dish is made in house, including their delicious Turkey Meatballs and Pot Roast. Nookies serves exceptional hamburgers, made with 100% Certified Angus beef. Many customers visit Nookies to eat multiple meals a day!Nookies Old Town, Nookies Too, and Nookies Tree are all B.Y.O.B.! They do not charge a corkage fee, and you can bring any alcoholic beverage you desire! Nookies is also very popular with families as they are kid friendly. Nookies has a great kids menu and coloring sheets!Nookies Old Town would be happy to host your next small event. They do not have a private dining area, but are very willing to work with your group! The counter space is first come first serve on the weekends, and long-time customers love sitting at the counter and chatting with the staff.
