Lisa and Sean Wieman own Peppers Mexicali Cafe in Pacific Grove, California. The restaurant has a Southwestern vibe with an emphasis on Latin American cuisine and fresh seafood. It is a local staple, and the client base is largely locals and regulars. Lisa has worked for Peppers for 20 years. She started in 1986 when the original owners first opened the restaurant. After working for 10 years she bought the restaurant and now runs it with her husband. The name comes from the original owners. They did a lot of traveling in the Southwest, where peppers are a common feature in the cuisine. The menu at Peppers Mexicali Cafe is a fusion of many cultures. They have Mexican, Guatemalan, California, and Southwest influences. They pride themselves on the amount of vegetarian and vegan options they offer. Whereas most Mexican restaurants use lard in their beans and rice, Peppers makes theirs totally vegetarian. One of the most popular dishes is the Mushroom and Artichoke Enchiladas. Fresh seafood is a best seller. The Fish Tacos and Tacos Al Carbon are other customer favorites. Peppers Mexicali Cafe also has a full bar. They make their own fresh squeezed lemon and lime margarita mix. A must try is their Blood Orange Margarita. Peppers Mexicali Cafe is open every day except Tuesdays. Reservations are recommended, especially at night, and large groups are welcome. Check out Peppers Mexicali Cafe for contemporary Latin cuisine and a refreshing margarita!
