We spoke with Brian Oakley one of the partners in Pizza J which opened about 10 months ago at 967 Westminster Street in Providence. Brian tells us heís had every kind of job your mother wouldnít want you to have. After moving to Providence in 1997 he found himself working in the restaurant industry. Several years later he was offered a partnership in Pizza Jís sister restaurant Julianís. The Julianís team wanted to open a fun place where they would feel comfortable bringing their kids. The restaurant features a custom built clay and stone pizza oven. Cooking pies at 800 degrees the oven creates a pizza with a crisp crunchy crust and and a chewier top layer. Specialty pizzas include the Olneyville, 2am with Meat Sauce, Sliced RI Weiners, Diced Onion,Yellow Mustard, Cheese, and Celery Seed. The Pizza J take on the Margherita pizza is the, Lovely Rita, withFresh Mozzarella cheese , Shredded Basil, Garlic, Red Sauce, House Cheese Blend. And here is another Pizza J original, the Beautiful Yeti, with Slow Roasted Pork, Smokey BBQ Sauce, Shaved Red Onion, Cheddar Cheese, and Scallion.The restaurant also features a variety of appetizers, salads and sandwiches. There is a full bar with many specialty drinks and 18 craft beers. There is seating for 60 inside and another 20 outdoors. Look for seating on the brand new deck next spring.
