Quahog Republic Whalerís Tavern resides in New Bedford, Massachusetts, which is one of the fishing capitals of the country. The old school, intimate restaurant gives a nod to the cityís rich seafaring history. It is walking distance from the beautiful New Bedford waterfront. The building has been around since 1794, giving the tavern an old fashioned and classic vibe with a comfortable and casual atmosphere. Whalerís Tavern is the third Quahog Republic restaurant. Owners Tom Hughes and Eric Bevins also own the Dive Bar and Waterfront Eatery. Their motto is ìLive. Give. Relax.î They encourage their customers to ìlive life to the fullest, give back to the community, and relax with friends and neighbors.î The Quahog Republic restaurants differ in menu and location, but the theme is the same. You can always expect fantastic service. The staff will always greet customers at the door and ensure that they feel at home throughout the dining experience. Tom says that this is the example of what New Englanders should be. He loves the people of the community and their support of local businesses. The menu at Quahog Republic Whalerís Tavern features New England tavern style food with an emphasis on seafood. They pride themselves on having a menu that is affordable, high quality, and unique. To support local business, they shop from local purveyors when they can. Theyíre famous for their classic seafood items like sauteed mussels, littleneck clams, and yellow fin tuna. They have a delicious take on fish and chips; their Crunchy Cod Fish and Chips are a perfect tail end cut of fish, crusted with almonds and corn flakes, and deep fried. Their best selling item is the Monsta Lobsta Salad Roll: a huge pile of lobster tail and claw meat, lightly dressed with mayonnaise, and served on a toasted brioche bun. Tom recommends the Cod Cakes, which are made with chunks of cod, applewood smoked bacon, and chopped onion, pan seared, and topped with cajun remoulade. Because of the surrounding community they also offer some Portuguese dishes like kale soup and chaurico. The Whalerís Tavern also has a full bar with a choice of over 30 types of rum, including both neat and mixed rums. Try several with one of their rum flights. They spice their own Whalerís Own Spiced Rum, which is barrel-aged to perfection and spiced with their own blend of spices. If rum is not your drink of choice, they have an extensive list of wines, beers, and specialty cocktails like margaritas, mojitos, bloody marys, and martinis. Quahog Republic Whalerís Tavern is in a clean and safe environment near a national park. They are heavily involved in the community and local charities. The area is a great place for guests from out of town to visit. The restaurant is open daily from 11:30 AM til 11 PM for food and 1 AM for drinks. Check it out for exceptional service and top notch New England cuisine!
