Rogue Island, Providence RI | Merchant Profile

Ryan Bessette, who along with his mother Shannon and brother Kyle envisioned the concept that has become Rogue Island. The almost three year old restaurant located in the Arcade in the historic heart of Providenceís downtown. Ryan tells us Rogue Island is a contemporary farm to table restaurant inspired by the produce, protein, and people of Rhode Island. The eatery features a seasonal chef driven menu, sourced from local farms often within a fifty mile radius.Additionally, Bessette says they make a big effort to procure wine, craft beer and spirits from local sources. The interior of the restaurant is also locally influenced. All the wood used in the buildout and incorporated into the bar, chairs and tables comes from wood salvaged from tearing down local barns. The walls are adorned with images shot by Richard Benjamin, the famed Rhode Island photographer. From the original 1828 copper ceiling to the Edison lights everything boasts local authenticity. Popular menu items include Homemade Pretzel Bites with Honey Mustard Sauce. The Flatbreads Specials are changed daily to reflect available fresh ingredients. Oysters are paired with house made cocktail sauce. There is a great selection of soup and salads. A featured sandwich is PORK BELLY BAHN MI, a Korean glazed my blue heaven farm pork belly, pickled carrot and radish, shaved cucumber, fresh cilantro, roasted jalapeÒo lime aioli, served on a housemade baguette. Entrees include NEW YORK STEAK FRITES an 8 oz crusted ny strip, pomme frites & champagne vin hollandaise. The beer and food become soul mates. Rogue Island can create a special menu tailor made for parties and events including corporate outings, birthday parties and weddings. The Bessette family is committed to featuring the best of Rhode Island has to offer. Using local craftsmen to create the dynamic space in the Arcade and sourcing ingredients produced near by.
