Byron Kehr Jr and his wife Lauren own Roosevelt Tavern in York. The history of the building dates back to the early 1900s when it was a cigar shop with a speakeasy in the back during prohibition. When prohibition ended in the 1930s it became Roosevelt Tap Room and then eventually Roosevelt Tavern. Byron and Lauren bought the restaurant in 2011. Byron has worked in the restaurant industry since he was 14 years old. He moved from corporate to independently owned restaurants. His favorite aspects of owning his own place are that every day is different and he gets to experiment with different foods and recipes, and he loves seeing people enjoy his dishes. The owners have a farm to table mentality at Roosevelt Tavern. They are very supportive of local farms and businesses like Skyblu and Camelot Valley Cheese Company. Byron says he loves the partnerships with these places is that they have a respect for the quality of the product and the food that is getting served. Roosevelt Tavern is known for their famous crab cakes and Cream of Crab Soup which has been on the menu for over 25 years. Byron recommends any of their seafood dishes. One great option is their salmon, which is a large portion of a fatty and flavorful cut of meat. Their steak and burgers are extremely popular. They use the whole steer, so they have changing specials with different cuts of meat. Their burgers are the best quality and have no extra fat added, making them similar to a steak burger. Roosevelt Tavern also has a great selection of wines and beers. Roosevelt Tavern has several awards under their belt, including their win for ìBest Burger in Yorkî for the past three years. They are open for dinner Tuesday-Saturday and for lunch Tuesday-Friday. They can be booked for private parties and have multiple dining rooms with varied amounts of seating available. Check out Roosevelt Tavern for great service and award winning food!
