Sakura is a family owned and operated restaurant located at 231 Wickenden Street in Providence. The Sushi Chef at Sakura underwent five years of rigorous training in an apprenticeship under the watchful eye of a master sushi chef. The restaurant, open since 2000, has developed a loyal following amongst locals. Owner Chong Koh points out that the family is hands on and ensure only the finest and freshest quality fish is used in the traditional preparations of sushi and sashimi. A feature of the restaurant making it stand out from competitors is that they make all their own sauces and dressing on site. These traditional recipes, using only the best ingredients, stand head and shoulders above the bulk bought counterparts used in most sushi establishments.Rolls include the Samurai Chef’s Special Roll, shrimp tempura and avocado, topped with cooked lobster, and the Tiger Chef’s Special Roll, tuna, salmon yellowtail, avocado, cucumber and masago inside, topped with salmon and white tuna. Dinners include, the Sushi & Sashimi Combination Dinner, 6 pcs of Nigiri, 9 slices of fresh fish, one combination maki salmon & tuna, and the Love Boat Dinner for 2, with 10 pcs of Sushi and 15 pcs sashimi with akira roll & california roll. The menu also includes a nice selection of appetizers, salads and tempura dishes. The restaurant is BYOB and can seat about 60 people.
