Opening recently in mid-May, South Country Tavern has brought something to East Patchogue that has the community buzzing with excitement to stop in and grab a bite to eat. Gaining rapid popularity, the owner Lois accredits her notoriety to her family oriented, welcoming environment, along with delicious menu items. Lois and her team are always raising the bar, keeping the customer in mind and improving on a daily basis. Loisí family has been in the neighborhood for over one hundred years, ingraining the family and community aspect into the restaurant itself. The building has been around for seventy five years, really bringing the classic, community vibe full circle. The restaurant is elegantly remodeled, providing an unpretentious, yet homey vibe that is nothing but warm and comforting. With the food to match, South Country Tavern offers a wide array of items that will satisfy everyone’s palate. Lois and her staff serve refined, rich, flavorful menu items, but make no mistake about it, the style is consistently home cooked and brings familiarity to her customers. A very popular item, the Prime Rib Dip, is thinly sliced prime rib dipped in beef au jus on a toasted artisan roll. The customer also has the option to add cheese, onions, mushrooms, or bacon. The steak burgers also come heavily favored, offering the customer the option to create exactly what they want. They can be topped with an array of different choices including blue cheese, pepper jack, guacamole, bacon, fried eggs, and even pineapple. South Country Tavern covers all the bases to fit the burger loverís needs, so much that they even offer a Black Bean & Chipotle option for vegetarians as well as a chicken option. For the smaller portion customer, their wings are to die for, as well as their Hawg Wings which are four ounce pork shanks, and can be topped with a spicy, teriyaki or BBQ glaze. The Tavern sources as much as they can locally, and get their bread delivered freshly everyday from Bohemia. Their desserts top the experience off, and they are five dollars across the board. Lois focuses herself on making her items affordable, while still not sacrificing any flavor by any means. She has done so successfully and is always creating repeat customers. Equipped with a full bar they also make great drinks, and like to keep their beers indigenous to Long Island. They make their Blueberry Mojito with fresh blueberries as well as their Watermelon Margaritas with fresh watermelon. Sangria Sunday is offered every Sunday, handcrafted fresh on a daily basis. Social Hour is also a prime time to come in, Monday through Friday, all drinks are four dollars. Stopping in to South Country Tavern is worth the experience and delivers some of the best food in the area.
