Standard Tap, Philadelphia PA | Merchant Profile

William Reed and Paul Kimbort opened Standard Tap in December 1999 in Philadelphia. In the late 90s, restaurants with a strong focus on local brews and ingredients werenít as common as they are today, and Standard Tap was one of the first places in Philadelphia with this concept. Paul and William met while serving and bartending at the same restaurant. They had both always worked in the business and thought it was time to develop their own place. The idea for Standard Tap started as a brewpub. Paul and William started experimenting with brewing beers and had parties for their friends to sample them. After being offered a brewing job, they started to realize that there would be a good market for a place serving all local taps. They developed Standard Tap and customers responded really well to the concept. Since opening, the restaurant has expanded twice and now has a porch and second floor seating. The neighborhood around them has also taken off. They were one of the first successful restaurants of the thriving area. At Standard Tap the chefs use all fresh and local ingredients, which is what has kept their quality the best for all these years. Paulís Chicken Pie recipe was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on Food Network. The recipe has been there from the start. It is made with stewed pulled chicken, carrots, onion, and celery, in their homemade pie crust. The Grilled Octopus was also featured on the show. Their chef has a ton of experience with seafood and makes amazing seafood dishes. They get full fish, not pieces, and serve a variety of fresh fish dinners. Standard Tap also has a full bar with specialty cocktails. Come in at happy hour, Monday-Friday from 4-6, for a half price cocktail or beer. The atmosphere at Standard Tap is casual and comfortable. They offer a high quality dining experience in a non-pretentious environment. They are open daily from 4 PM-2 AM and have brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Reservations are available. Check out Standard Tap for the best in local brews and food!
