Szechuan Empire opened in 1991 and is a long established family owned and operated restaurant, serving up amazing Chinese food in Livonia, Michigan. Owner and Chef of Szechuan Empire, Tom, was born in Taiwan, but grew up in Singapore. He immigrated to the United States and worked in the kitchen of his grandparents restaurant in New York at the age of 14. It was there that Tom realized his talent and love for cooking and has grown to be a popular chef known locally and globally for his Asian cuisine. Tom has been featured as a celebrity chef on Food Network where you can see him on Guy’s Grocery Games, Cut Throat Kitchen, and The Great Food Truck Race. He now owns two food trucks called Fortune Cooking Food Trucks than can be seen around downtown Detroit. Tom is a strong leader within his community who is a passionate about teaching others how to cook. Tom teaches culinary classes at five different community schools and is an advocate volunteer worker. He is also a local TV chef most often featured on channel 247. Tom can even be seen on his YouTube channel, Fortunecooking, where he features cooking tutorials for dishes like Ramen Miso Soup and Teriyaki Stir Fry. Szechuan Empire has expanded to two locations, but the location here in Livonia is the first restaurant owned by Tom and his family. Tom operates Szechuan Empire with his brother, sister, and much of the restaurants original staff who started back in 1991.
