Andrew Barnes is the chef and owner of The Busy/Fizzy Bee in York. Drew has experience working in fine dining restaurants for years, and earned four diamond status, before opening up his own place in 2009. Many of his cooking skills are self taught from his time spent researching in the library. In 2014 he opened up The Fizzy Bee, an old fashioned style soda fountain, with the help of his partner, Andrea Linebaugh. The Busy Bee is named in honor of Drewís grandfather, without whom the restaurant would not have been possible. He fought in the Navy during World War II on a ship called the USS Biloxi, which was nicknamed ìThe Busy Beeî because it fought in the most battles. It was also known as the ìDouble Luckyî because it never lost a man in combat. The Busy Beeís menu is described as ìAmerican cuisine and traditional fare with a Drewish twist.î They have influences from a number of other cuisines including Japanese, Indian, Mexican, and Paraguayan. The menu consists of breakfast items, sandwiches, and salads, all made fresh and from scratch. It changes frequently, from weekly to seasonally. They have an extensive list of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options, to accommodate those with dietary needs. Drewís favorite dish is their Corned Beef Hash, which is the best of its kind. They flash sautee their corned beef, potatoes, and caramelized onions in seasoning and white wine and top with shredded cabbage. Their best selling item is the Firecracker Salad, made with chicken and their homemade Asian sauce. The Busy Bee is open Tuesday and Thursday 9-3, Saturday 7-3, and the first Friday of every month from 4-9. Stop by for fresh and delicious food, and homemade, old fashioned soda!
