Kelly Cargin took over The Wellington Room in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 2015. They serve high end cuisine with a French flare. Kelly and her husband, Cary, came to the states from Johannesburg, South Africa looking to get into the restaurant industry. They both started working in IT, but Kelly has always had a passion for food and dreamed of owning a restaurant. The Wellington Room is a small, intimate restaurant with a beautiful view of the Piscataqua River. Itís elegant casual atmosphere makes it a perfect spot to bring a date. Alex Thomas is the executive head chef of The Wellington Room. Kelly gives him complete creative freedom of the menu and he has crafted all of the dishes since she took over. The one item that remained is their authentic Beef Wellington, which is served on Fridays. It takes Alex two days to prepare this classic dish. Everything on their menu is made with fresh ingredients from local farms, never off the shelf. Most of their items are gluten free. Some of Alexís most popular creations are the Roast Eggplant Tangine and the Braised Pork Osso Bucco. The eggplant dish is made with slow roasted vegetables, lemon freekeh salad, toasted almonds, and spiced yogurt. The osso bucco is served with roasted root vegetable hash, celeriac puree, and sage gravy. Alex and Kelly attend wine tastings to find the perfect wines, which they pair with each of their dishes. The Wellington Room is open Wednesday-Sunday for dinner. This small space can only hold 36 people and is often reserved for private events, so reservations are highly recommended. More information on hosting a private event is available on their website. Come to The Wellington Room for high end dining and stunning views!
