Since 1999, Waldhorn Restaurant has been the best place to go for German fare in Charlotte. Tom and Gitta Maier met while working together as chefs at a four-star restaurant in Germany. Tom, a Long Island native, learned his skills at the Culinary Institute of America. Gitta was born and raised in Germany and grew up working at her parentís restaurant, the original Waldhorn, and studied the culinary arts in Germany. When Tom and Gitta moved to Charlotte, everyone they got to know in the area said Charlotte needed a German restaurant. Since Gitta was German and they both were chefs, they decided to open their own restaurant. Gittaís parents always wished she would one day take over their restaurant in Germany, but instead Gitta moved halfway across the globe and opened her own. Tom and Gitta decided the least they could do was keep the name. Waldhorn Restaurant was built from the ground up to resemble a building you might find in Germany. Waldhorn Restaurant offers some traditional and some modern German dishes. The ëBratwurst Plateí and ëWeinerschnitzelí are very popular.
