Yia Yiaís Pizza Cafe is located at 381 Sconticut Neck Road in Fairhaven. It is a family owned and operated business that opened in 2005. Owner John tells us heís been working in restaurants since he was eight-years-old. Helping him run the eatery are his wife Joanne, their two children, George and Marissa, and his Mother. Yia Yia means grandmother in Greek and is also the first three letters of John and Joanneís names in Greek. Thus itís the inspiration for the Pizzeriaís name. Johnís favorite part of the business is the creativity it takes to stay ahead of the competition. He takes great pride in the unique pies he creates. The selection of gourmet pies includes Johnís creation, Senor Taco made with traditional taco hamburger, lettuce, diced tomatoes, and black olives served with a side of salsa and sour cream. The Shrimp Mozambique Pizza plays homage to the areaís Portuguese roots. It is a Bianca pie with mozambique sauce, shrimp, and onion.Signature Pizzas include the Greek Villager: Bianca with marinated chicken, topped with a chilled Greek Village style salad of cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, kalamata olives, and feta cheese tossed in their homemade Greek dressing and served with a Tzatziki sauce. Another signature pie is the Athenian: Bianca with garlic, basil, sun dried tomatoes, eggplant, feta, and red roasted peppers.Almost everything in the restaurant is homemade including the pita bread. Other homemade items include: the Chicken Souvlaki that is marinated chicken on a homemade pita with chopped onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce. And the Gyro featuring seasoned lamb beef thinly sliced on a homemade pita topped with chopped onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce. The Chicken Tenders are made from scratch as is Yia Yia’s Famous Roast Beef.If you are in the Fairhaven area and looking for great homemade food, stop in at Yia Yiaís Pizza Cafe.
