Kim Salahie, the owner of Zebra Restaurant, has a diverse and interesting culinary background. Growing up in London, Kim began working as a manager in French restaurants. At one of his restaurants he noticed his chefs were struggling and brought that up to the owner, which then led Kim to becoming the chef manager overnight! He worked for the next year eight years in London at a variety of French restaurants either in Management, the Kitchen or on a couple of occasions as Chef Manager. In 1992, Kim moved to the United States and began working for Guckenheimer, the leading West Coast Corporate Food Service provider at the time. In 1996, he started working for Compass Group and in 2000, Kim moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where their headquarters are located. After working in a corporate setting for so long, Kim wanted a change and to return to his roots so he purchased Zebra Restaurant in 2015.After purchasing Zebra in 2015, Kim & his wife Pascale, updated and brought new life to Zebra. They spent several months renovating the restaurant, from its dÈcor and lighting to the outdoor fireplace patio and rest rooms. The result is a lighter, more contemporary ambiance. From there Kim and the culinary team revised the menu seasonally with a contemporary French-American style. In 2016, Zebra was again awarded a four-diamond rating from AAA, as well as winning Open Tables Diners Choice Award for 2016.Zebraís culinary aspirations play on French culinary traditions while adding a modern twist. One of their most successful dishes is the Pork Belly often served as an appetizer, but at Zebra served as an entree. The pork belly is slow cooked, tender & crispy. Accompaniments include spaetzle, sauce de veau, braised red cabbage, and a ragout of wild mushrooms. Another of their most popular dishes is their Steak Frites; the ìsteakî is Prime New York Strip, served with duck fat regianno parmesan pommes frites, drunken cabernet Vidalia onion and sauce bÈarnaise. A sly reinterpretation of the traditional bistro Steak Frite, with its less opulent quality of steak & accompaniments!Along with their delicious food, Zebra also offers an extensive wine list. They feature many French wines, but also offer wines from all over the world. The list currently has about 500 bottles to choose from, but it continues to grow and evolve based on the passage of time. Zebra serves breakfast Monday through Friday starting at 7:30 AM, as well as lunch and dinner. On Saturdays, Zebra offers dinner and on Sundays, they serve brunch from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Zebra also offers catering for a wide range of different events and parties on and off-site. They have a beautiful Fireplace patio and private room that are available to be reserved for special events. The Patio in particular, is popular for wedding rehearsals, showers & general hors dí ouvres receptions. You may also buy-out and reserve the entire restaurant for a special occasion. Zebra also has their own catering truck to support off site catering. Overall, when it comes to catering, Zebra has a wide range of services to accommodate every customerís needs.
